Medicare Supplement Plan N

Medicare supplement Plan N ranks a close third in popularity. Plan F and Plan G are first and second respectively. We’ll outline what you get with this plan and why it may be a good choice for you.

Medicare Supplement Plan N Coverage

Medicare supplement Plan N is popular because it is the third most comprehensive in its coverage.  It is a useful plan for some people because of what it does cover. Plan N covers:

  • Medicare Part A deductible and coinsurance
  • The first three pints of blood
  • Hospice care coinsurance or copayment
  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
  • Medicare Part B coinsurance

Medicare supplement Plan N does not cover:

  • The Medicare part B annual deductible of $183
  • Any excess charges above the Medicare approved amount for Medicare part B

Medicare supplement Plan N charges a copayment for some office visits. It also charges a copayment for emergency room visits that do not result in inpatient care.

Choosing Medicare Supplement Plan N

With the lower amount of coverage, many people choose to shy away from Plan N. However, if you are healthy, Plan N could be a great choice for you. The reason to go with a plan with less coverage, is that the premiums are lower. If you can get a monthly premium with Plan N that is significantly lower than Plans F or G, it may make sense for you to go with a little more exposure to costs.  The advantage to Plan N is that it still covers the biggest liabilities that you run into with health care, hospitals, hospice, and skilled nursing care.
