Medicare supplement Plan G is the second most popular of the ten different Medicare supplement plans (see all the Medicare supplement plans here). It covers almost all the gaps in your traditional Medicare coverage. With the second most comprehensive coverage, Medicare supplement plan G allows you to not worry about expenses for a doctor or hospital visit.
Medicare Supplement Plan G Coverage
With Plan G, you fill almost all of the gaps in Medicare Part A and B. This includes:
- Medicare Part A deductible of $1,340 per benefit Period
- First three pints of blood
- The coinsurance you pay under Part A for longer stays in the hospital
- Hospice coinsurance
- Skilled nursing care coinsurance
- Medicare Part B 20% coinsurance for well patient and outpatient services
- Any excess charges that are above the Medicare approved amount
- The costs of a foreign travel emergency
What makes this different than Medicare supplement plan F? Medicare supplement Plan G does not cover the $183 annual deductible that comes with Medicare Part B.
Why Choose Medicare Supplement Plan G?
It can be cheaper for you to choose Plan G over plan F. Medicare supplement Plan G will many times be as much as $20 cheaper per month than Plan F. From an annual standpoint, you would save $240 a year by choosing Plan G. You would still have to pay the Part B deductible of $183 every year. The only way to know for sure if Plan G will save you money is to get a set of quotes. You can get a free, no hassle set of quotes by filling out the form on the side of this page or on our Medicare supplement quotes page here.
As with any of the supplements, you are going to get the same coverage no matter which company you choose. The plans do not change from company to company so the only questions you will need to answer are, “Which plan do I like?” and, “Which company do I feel comfortable will provide great service?” So, whether you choose Plan G or another plan, we would be honored to provide you with the information that can help you make those decisions.
